About
Gordon Rocks Foundation
The
goal is for Gordon to be remembered for how he lived,
and more specifically highlight his life in music. “Music
has always played a huge part in my dad’s life
and I think it is very appropriate that he should be
remembered for his passion for life, family and music,”
said Scott Kusayanagi, Gordon’s son and band mate.
“Every time that I hit the stage I take comfort
in the thought that my Dad is up there, somewhere, watching
and listening.”
Before owning the popular Rocky Mountain
Chocolate Factory in Monterey’s world famous Cannery
Row and working for IBM (later Hitachi), Gordon played
guitar, wrote songs, and toured with Savannah up and
down the West Coast during the '70s and early '80s.
The band was so popular during its time they were on
the verge of inking a deal with Capitol Records. Unfortunately,
Savannah was passed over for The J. Geils Band, who
later on released their only hit “Centerfold.”
Gordon eventually retired from the music scene altogether
to raise a family.
Years later, Gordon re-entered the
music world this time playing guitar alongside his son
in their cover band “10 til 2” where they
performed in venues across the Bay Area. For Gordon,
the chance to perform with his son gave them the opportunity
to become closer. Things were going well for Gordon,
until his unexpected passing.
As a way to honor his memory, Gordon’s
family established the “Gordon Rocks Foundation”
to help raise money for the music scholarships.
